It hurts that I'm not with you guys for teh ubar progression :( I just don't have the play time I once had and even when I do, I have two guys to level. It'll be quite a while before I'm actually able to hit the endgame instances.

But according to LD a common problem is that she WTFnukes somebody in the first few seconds, leaving the raid 1 short. That's something a little preplanning could alleviate.

http://www.bosskillers.com/cgi-bin/bbguild/index.cgi?action=view_guide&guide_id=32 is what I'm looking at to see her abilities.

First of all the bank has tons and tons of Greater Fire Protection Potions left over from Rag/BWL. Even more Elemental Fire and Hearts of Fire that could rapidly be converted into same. So people could take the edge off the Holy Fire WTFNuke with one of them. It ain't much, but it's not like those potions are going to increase in value, so we might as well use them. (This is assuming I've been told correctly that Holy Fire is fire damage rather than Holy).

Strategy I'm outlining doesn't require using any mods, but I am sure there are mods that could do some of these jobs automatically.

Need:
Random Ranged DPS dude
Priest/Druid #1
Priest/Druid #2
Pally

Random Ranged DPS dude has no reason to target anybody but the boss ever. He has on always show target of target and show target casting bar. As soon as he sees the boss casting Holy Fire he yells out over TS: "Holy Fire on [boss's target]". I'm sure with a mod this could be autospammed on the screen as well.

Priest/Druid #1's job is to prevent the Holy Fire from killing the target. He should glance at the target's health bar and if the target is above, say, 70% then he should not worry. Otherwise, he should spam fastcast heals to get the target's health up enough to survive the nuke, then go back to healing the MT.

Priest/Druid #2's job is to heal the Holy Fire damage. As soon as ranged DPS dude yells this out, he should drop everything, target the target of the HF, and start winding up his biggest long cast uberheal. This way, the nuke will land, and 1s later will be healed. After this this guy can renew the target if need be.

Pally's job is to wait till the nuke lands, and cleanse off the DoT component.

I think if the healing coordinator arranges something like this beforehand it should greatly lower the odds of somebody getting WTFNuked early on.

By playing around with macros and mods, it is possible for a healer to do all their healing while targeting the boss, but this approach will work even without that I think.

I don't know about this boss but the only problem with macros that heal target of target is if the mob's target changes during the cast. I haven't been healing much but I think this was the macro that wasn't working completely as intended:

#showtooltip Healing Touch
/use Oshu'gun Relic
/use Glowing Crystal Insignia
/cast [button:2, target=player] Healing Touch; [help] Healing Touch; [target=targettarget, help] Healing Touch; [target=player] Healing Touch

I believe what was happening is I would see target of target low on health and click button to start my heal. However the mob would then change target to something with full health and the heal would land on them instead of original hurt player. I was going to test if this change works better but I don't think I got around to it:

#showtooltip Healing Touch
/use Oshu'gun Relic
/use Glowing Crystal Insignia
/focus
/target [button:2] player; [targettarget, help] targettarget; player
/cast Healing Touch
/target focus
/clearfocus

Glad to see some serious strategy discussions, and miss having you with us Eloris.

There are 2 tricks warlocks can use against Holy Fire. One is to bring up their FelHunter, which can eat the debuff off them. The other is to make and wield a spellstone in the off hand, which when used removes all harmful magical effects. I tried these out the last time I was up against the Maiden, seemed to help.

this strat would definatly worth trying, my only concern is that if all 3 healers (assuming we have 3 in the group) focus their attention to remove and heal those that get the holy fire debuff, their might not have enough heal on the MT because this boss hits really hard. also, we would have to make sure that all pallys and priest are spread around the room to make sure that every1 in the raid is in range of either one of the 3 healers. this was an issue for me when trying to dispell magic from a raid member most of the time they were too far away.

thanks eloris for sharing that strat with us, this will definatly help us! :)
i wish you were there to try it with us though :(

i wasted a lot of precious time trying to heal people out of range
it would be helpful to have SPECIFIC SET position and healing responsibilities known beforehand
the graphic at bosskillers.com makes sense, i really would just like more practice
i have also read that holy fire is fire dmg and that fireprot pots will help but then on the bosskillers page it sez she only does holy dmg so who knows, we should try to use the FR pot since as it is now they are just collecting dust

i miss the agerth in the raids but he still shows support with strats, you rock man

I noticed the other day that CTRA has a checkbox for Emergency Monitor to show chars in range. Anyone know if that or other mods help deal with the range issue?

Her holy fire spell does Fire damage, not holy, according to wowwiki. Her repentance hits me for around 1500ish and she clobbers me for 3000+ish iirc.

Kalto: Repentance should tick for 300, 150 with a dampen magic on you.

You are thinking holy ground Miya. Also Kalto shouldn't ever have dampen magic on him unless we have 2 tanks present.

It's my understanding that the tanks shouldn't have dampen magic, but all the other melee dps should.

Also, Pan, your avatar makes me weep for joy.

It seems like my plan won't work perfectly because of the need to spread out, such that it is impossible to be in healing range of both priests at once. In that case, I'd suggest the following adjustments:

1) CLEAR determination of where everybody is going before the fight starts. I assume this is already being done. If not, it should be. Should be as simple as group 1 to the left group 2 to the right or something like that. Since ranged dps have nothing to do but WTFNuke the boss, they should have the added responsibility of making sure they are in range of their healers. Obviously groups should stick together for the purpose of PoH/Tranquility.

2) Pally in group takes over the role of ensuring that the target doesn't die from the HF. Healers in other group take over on MT in the meantime. Thie requires that there are two main healers and two pallies. If there aren't, then the main healer will have to do the best he can.
