What are your best guesses as to where we will be going and when/how/who we will be fighting?
Sadly I don't know the background lore anywhere near as well as I should... however my guess is the Emerald Dream "Old Rumor from Vanilla on where the Portals that were guarded by World Dragons were supposed to lead to"
There's what I suspect, and what I wish for, of course. I suspect we're going to see more burning legion content, and more orcs.
Personally, I'd love to see more Gilnean content; or more dwarven content. Focus on the lore around the original Azerothian races, and go from there. Heck, I loved all the Titan stuff that we've gotten over the years. More of that would be good too! :)
Aren't there a limited number of portals by which you can actually physically enter the Emerald Dream? I mean Druids can enter via dream form, leaving their bodies behind. The green flight of Ysera can shift from one realm to the other at will I presume...idk it's more than I know, I may have misread during my recent trek through the Stormrage novel.
My Theory
I can think of several options, some better than others:
In every case, alternate Draenor has became permanently linked to our present and therefore has forever altered the destiny of our present from what it would have been thanks to Garrosh, Wrathion and Kairozdormu. Because of this Outland and Draenor will forever coexist in our timeline until some other time altering event may change it.
Admitedly I find the last to be the least likely, but then it is also a distinct possibility that options 1 and 3 could naturally grow into or out of each other based on the involvement of N'Zoth whose unconfirmed location has been rumored to be under the Maelstrom in a ruined, tainted city. That city could be what's left of the Highborn who are now Naga. It is rumored as well that N'Zoth is specifically related to a corrupt sleep, or the Nightmare. It may not be a mistake that the Titans setup 5 Aspects if there were 5 Old Gods to fend off alongside the Watchers with specific realms of influence as it were.
Alex Ziebart from Blizzard Watch kinda mirrored my views on whether it would be Emerald Dream or Azshara:
We fought red orcs in Siege of Orgrimmar, green orcs in Hellfire Citadel, so next has to be blue orcs in space!
There are some bits that come at the end of the legendary ring quest and the defeat of the last boss in HFC that may be hints as to what is next. They could easily a) open up another part of AU Draenor, b) send us to Argus, c) pull some continents up from the ocean floor on Azeroth to deal with Azshara. I don't think they will revamp Azeroth again or send us to an alternate alternate Draenor...and I really hope they don't send us to the alternate Azeroth. I'm not too concerned about it, there's a year or so before it gets here, and I'm sure lots of things will change between their announcement and the release.
And it's WoW: Legion. No real surprise. Some new stuff. I'm taking all of it with a grain of salt because I must confess that WoD was a bit of a let down for me. Leveling to 100 was awesome, the most fun I've had leveling in a long time. Putzing around in my garrison in the months since? Not so much. Good concept, poor execution.
So who's going to main switch to Demon Hunter?
Actually, I was a bit surprised that they gave into the calls for a demon hunter class. Tank/dps...and I'm afraid it will be melee dps. Hopefully they can make it ranged. And the list of what they are including...little bit of everything under the sun. I suspect much of it will be single instance bits.
It will be interesting to see what they do with the system for artifact weapons. LOTRO has tried two systems, neither of which has worked well.
I'm interested in the Artifacts as well. I'm guessing we'll be progressing/upgrading those as the expansion goes along, taking the place of the Legendary quest lines of the previous two expansions. Hopefully they can find a new way to pace it that doesn't involve collecting rocks from raid bosses.
Wouldn't hold my breath on DH being ranged. They've never been before, especially since all the cool Demon Hunters use warglaives. Maybe a thrown warglaive can boomerang or something.
And you're right, they are emptying the wish bin for this one. Tossing everything but the kitchen sink at us. I'd venture that the precipitous drop in subscriptions has a bit to do with that. One wonders who the final boss will be. If it's Sargeras what does that say about WoW's future? More likely it will be Aszhara or someone like that though. I'd also wager we'll see flying well before the final content patch.
Order Halls. "Meh" on first impression. Guess we'll have to wait an see on those.
Some interesting tidbits on Blizzard's official Legion page. The bio of Sylvanas hints that our favorite Dark Lady's days may be numbered. Also, Anduin needs a haircut.
Demon Hunter is Tank/Melee.
Guldan is the final boss of the the first "tier" most likely.
Artifacts are going to be awesome.
Looks like they are tying up a lot of loose ends before taking us on some epic journey into unknown territory (like MoP).
Seriously...nobody's caught onto the transmit thing?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
just the guy with the fever. Ok. :)
as ever i am optimistic about this. And ten bucks says Snow is gonna mainline one of these.
Snow and I were discussing demon hunter names. He figures all the good ones are taken. I was thinking of MyThirdSpecIsAWarlock...
Where is the like button???
There's an interview with the devs on Icy Veins.
http://www.icy-veins.com/forums/topic/13199-wow-legion-details-at-gamescom-interview-with-tom-chilton-ion-hazzikostas/
Not a whole lot of new info but some interesting tidbits. Here were the ones I found interesting, my comments in parentheses:
1. An all-new weapon type, Glaives, will be the only weapon type that Demon Hunters can use. (I like this, it's what they should use. See a DH wielding maces or something would just be thematically weird.)
2. You obtain your Artifact early on in the Legion experience. This is the weapon you will use throughout the expansion. You will not get weapon drops in Legion. (Well, I guess we won't need to research loot tables for BIS weapons. The current info on Artifacts is that there is one for each spec. So if I take the Fire Mage sword for example, can I still get the Frost Mage staff for my second spec? Do the weapons change when you change specs? More info to come I assume.)
3. The only time you spend inside the Emerald Nightmare is in the raid zone. (Well, better than nothing I guess. They did indicate it may expand in the future.)
4. Karazhan's brief appearance in the cinematic teaser was important. Karazhan is an 'important place'. (Woot! I love Kharazan.)
5. In Legion, Survival Hunters will be a melee spec that utilizes a pet. To differentiate specializations, the developers will try to de-homogenize the classes. Further to this, Beast Mastery Hunters will fight at range with a pet, while Marksmanship Hunters will fight at range with NO PET. (Not a Hunter but I find this interesting. Wonder what the other classes can expect? It's good they are making an effort to decrease homogenization. Melee Hunters though? That's different.)
6. Professions are getting a lot of new stuff. The professions team for Legion is the largest that Blizzard has ever had for WoW, and they clearly heard the feedback that professions were underutilized in Warlords and overlapped with the Garrisons too much. (God, I hope they do this right.)
Something tells me Ady will follow her beloved Metamorphosis to a new main...since it's being removed from warlocks and given to demon hunters.
In reality though, I'm going to have to help her determine which spec in the game following 7.0 won't bore her to death if demo gets watered down like they promised. :(
I for one will enjoy trying out the demon hunters and am glad to see Acherus move to the Broken Isles with Dalaran.
I know that Lucette's considering rolling one at least...maybe she'll go DH with Ady. :D
I already completed the tank bronze challenge as a warlock, so how hard can it be when my spec is actually supposed to be tanking?
*runs for cover from tomatoes being thrown from all the tanks*
*lobs a tomato across the room*
So what you're saying, is that you're going Tank spec next expac? Hmmm...
*idly imagines Cirne and Adyanna tanking a raid night*
THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN!!!
I like that they're going to let us mog the artifact weapons if we want to.
Also: I like the new mog'ing system they've promised. MOAR BAG SPACE!!!!
They've got more news coming this Sunday: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/19853339/gamescom-2015-legion-dev-talk-live-stream-this-sunday-8-7-2015
